In the first two years of being active in networking and attending social events, I read a lot of advice saying that returning a message or a call within 24 hours shows how much you value the other person. I even shared this as a tip to other newcomers, as one of those subtle behaviors for a good first impression.
I now realized that this only really works for people who still have extra capacity at the end of the day. It does not apply to people who are living on scraps of energy after work and survival.
